Life Lessons

My DH is having a bad week. The 3rd shift supervisor is out on leave again this week, which means when stuff goes wrong at the end of his shift, he has to stay. This makes him extra tired and he gets behind on his school work.

Then yesterday he was standing in HR when he saw a guy he knows come in with his supervisor and head toward medical. Then an ambulance pulled up. John held the door and he saw his friend was being brought out. He asked the guy what was wrong, and he said he "didn't know, but he felt really strange." John told him to get better and watched the bus take him away. Some hours later, he learned the guy had died. He died alone, without his wife or kids by his side. It happened too fast and they didn't make it there in time. How awful for his family. How sad and upset they must be. It was completely unexpected. They believe he had a heart attack.

John is pretty shaken up himself. He was the last friend to speak to the man. He never dreamed he wouldn't see him again. It's also a reminder of our mortality and how you never know when your life might end. It can be over in a moment. We all know that, but yet we tend to live like its not true. Make the moments count. Be kind to those you see each day. You might be the last person to give them a warm word. Worse yet, it might be the last thing you ever do.

Yeah, I've been around some pretty crazy sudden deaths lately. It sure does make you think of your own mortality.
