Do you remember me writing about my office-mate at the CPA firm? She didn't seem to be cutting it and I didn't think public accounting was a good fit for her. She also wanted to stop using birth control as soon as she got married in late May, which would put her due in the middle of tax season of course. I had a little heart to heart with her about that.
Well it turns out she is pregnant (no surprise there). She's due right in tax season. She's leaving the firm at the end of this month, and she's going back to school to be a teacher. She now says she HATES accounting.
The thing is, if you actually hate accounting, you should have figured that out in school. Now, you might like accounting overall and find you hate public accounting or you hate being an accountant in industry, but to truly hate accounting itself, you surely would be able to figure that out before graduation. Accounting can be used in many different facets. You can be an analyst, you can be a CPA, you can work in a corporate accounting department, you can work in a small bookkeeping practice, you can work for the IRS....etc. Some use their accounting degree for a good business foundation and go onto law school. Its not like your only option is to work at a CPA firm. Even among CPA firms there are specialities that some people like and some people don't. A former co-worker is cussing me daily right now because he is forced to do some of my old work and he hates my speciality - non-profit audits.
Girl is strange. Hope she likes teaching when she gets into that.
